Atewa Day Of Action: March for Atewa, Forest and Water

A Rocha Ghana (ARG) together with the Coalition of NGOs against Mining in Atewa Forest and the Concerned Citizens of Atewa Landscape (CCAL) will Today,  Friday, 21 June 2019 present to the Parliament of Ghana, a petition which concerns the mining of Bauxite in the Atewa Forest.

The petition is solely to draw Parliament’s attention of the need to make informed decisions for the protection and effective management of the Atewa forest and the water shed it feeds by ensuring the Landscape is excluded from any form of mining exploitation.

Prior to the presentation of the petition, we will embark on several activities which include a Stand Still Street Messaging on some principal streets in Accra and finally a peaceful walk to Parliament— where the petition will be delivered.

Street Messaging Routes

Our representatives will be standing at the following locations;

  1. Independence Avenue through to the Ridge Roundabout
  2. Ridge Roundabout to Castle Road
  3. From the Ridge Roundabout to the Liberia Road Traffic light (National Theatre) towards Cedi House.

N.B

Our representatives will be stationed for close to three (3) hours at the above listed locations with placards containing various messages from our campaign. We would then converge at the Ghana Wildlife Society (Close to Efua Sutherland Children’s Park-Accra) where participants will walk to the Parliament House and deliver the Petition.

We encourage all and  Sundry to join this fruitful walk. Bring a friend and an eco-friendly placard and let’s act now for people, nature and the future.
