Our Green 20th Anniversary In Pictures

6th December 2019

Green is the prime colour of the world, and that from which its loveliness arises.

―Pedro Calderon de la Barca

A Rocha Ghana’s official colours all turned ‘green’ both literally and metaphorically at the official launch of the organisation’s 20th Anniversary. From the interior decoration of the venue to the outdoor exhibition centre, nature’s theme made a profound statement on the entire celebration.

Performances were not left out of the ‘green fever’ and guess what? Many are yet to recover from all the green beauty that the event had to offer.

Here are some green highlights from the event:

Children of the Light and the Story of the Hummingbird

There is never a dull moment with the Children of the Light (COTL) and at the commemoration of our 20th anniversary, all they did wowed the audience.

They gave a stunning performance of the Hummingbird story as told by celebrated Kenyan environmental activist, Wangari Maathai. This performance alone was a jaw-dropper.

The allegory encourages participation and personal empowerment to save the environment from depletion.

“I may feel insignificant, but I certainly don’t want to be like the animals watching the planet go down the drain. I will be a hummingbird. I will do the best I can.” — Wangari Maathai

Dance Focus

The dance group that came all the way from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to entertain our audience, did just that. Just like COTL, Dance Focus did not just entertain our guests, they did some environmental education through their dance. During one of their performances, they demonstrated the critical role of local communities in the protection of their natural resources and environment.

No Plastics―all green

Although ARG has for a long time been part of the global movement against single-use plastics, we used this celebratory period to further deepen our pledge against the plastic menace. Though a tough move, we ensured the ceremony was not clogged with plastics. So, instead of the usual plastic water bottles that are served at major events, we opted to serve our guests using clean and well sterilised glasses. Yes glasses―no plastic cup or bottle and, guess what, our straws were eco-friendly too. Lest we forget, there was no Styrofoam either―our canapés were served in beautiful ceramic saucers.

Exhibition and the Garden Affair

The celebration featured a short exhibition stationed in a garden-like scenery. The exhibition saw a display of most of A Rocha Ghana’s works over the years in pictures. It took guests down the memory lane and they sure did experience a little of ARG’s proud moments.

The garden later served as a dance floor for the celebration―many moving their bodies to the tune of sweet Ghanaian melodies.

In all it was a green delight, a celebration of joy ― guests with an epic picture of pure excitement.

ARG’s  20th anniversary celebration will run until November 2020. As we live these moments, we will do well to keep stakeholders and followers posted on all activities we would be running.

Join us, let us care for nature and people together.
