International Day For Biological Diversity Art Contest
Biological diversity resources are the pillars upon which we build civilizations. The International Day for Biodiversity is a United Nations official event, celebrated on the May 22nd every year.
The day is commemorated for celebrating and appreciating the richness of the earth’s biodiversity alongside raising public awareness and action towards the threats these valuable resources face. It also gives the platform for promoting progressive green solutions towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This year’s theme for International Day for Biodiversity is “We’re part of the solution #ForNature’’– a reminder that biodiversity remains the answer to several sustainable development challenges.
The year’s celebration is special as it builds on the momentum of last year’s celebration under the theme “Our Solutions are in Nature”. Again, it aligns with the UN Global Decade on Ecosystem Restoration 2021-2030, the Post- 2020 Global Biodiversity Framework, as well as making contributions to SDGs 4 and SDG 15 which seeks to promote quality education as well as protect, restore and promote sustainable solutions towards biodiversity loss.
Thus, in partnership with the Ghana Wildlife Society, Sahadji, and GH Environment, we are hosting children/students to an art contest to commemorate this important day. This art competition is to allow children to express what the theme means to them and how children can implement nature-based solutions for climate change, health issues, food and water security, sustainable livelihoods and biodiversity loss. Young people are encouraged to use their artistic skills to raise awareness, which features in the theme of International Day for Biodiversity.
We are looking forward to seeing this year’s entries and encourage those eligible to partake of this initiative to help secure our beautiful planet.
