13th June 2016

School children within the East Akyem Municipality have been encouraged to help protect the environment especially, the Atewa Forest which provides important ecosystem services such as the provision of water for both domestic and industrial use. The educational outreach program; an initiative under the Living Water from the Mountain Project, seeks to extend education to schools and communities on the importance of the Atewa Forest and the need for long term protection to safeguard its ecological integrity and provision of valuable ecosystem services.

Some schools visited by the educational outreach team included; Kibi Experimental Basic School, Kibi Demonstration Basic School, Kibi State Junior High School and Kibi Presbyterian Junior High School. Through video presentations and the use of other educational materials, students as well teachers had opportunities to contribute and also ask questions on issues related to the current environmental threats facing the Atewa Forest Reserve and their role in protecting it. In the end, authorities of the various schools expressed gratitude and also pledged their support and solidarity to the Atewa National Park campaign.
